Digital Transfer:
What is a Digital Transfer?
A Digital Transfer (also sometimes referred to as an
Iron-On transfer) is where a design is printed on a
medium and/or the medium cut, and the background is
removed by weeding. The final piece is then applied to
the t shirt with heat.
What are the different Types?
Print and Cut Digital Transfer This is where we print
any full colour design onto a vinyl medium, then cut the
shape of the design and remove any unwanted medium.
CAD Cut Transfer
Overlay A coloured piece of vinyl medium is cut to a
given shape (words, pictures etc). The background
unwanted medium is removed.
How Much
Does it cost?
The price depends on these 3 factors. You will need to
supply all these details if you want a quote.
1. Quantity The total quantity to be printed. There is a
set up charge include in the quoted price.
2. Print Size The size of the design is important. (The
total surface area of the medium that is used). Tell us
the width x height of the final design
3. The Design, Some designs will not work. For example:
designs with fine edges or faded edges. Text that is
smaller than 5mm high, are difficult to cut and weed. We
also need to see the amount of weeding required.
Different Types Of Cut Lines
We use a few different cut lines.
Patch
- These are solid shapes. Includes Rounded Corner Patch,
Square Corner Patch. Other patches including Rectangles,
Squares Triangles, Ovals or Circles. Great if your
artwork is not in vector format.
Bubble
- Bubble is cut to the shape of the design but with a
bubbled edge of the medium around the design. This could
be because of a small design where weeding is
impossible. Or if the design is required on many
different colour ways.
Flush
- The cut line is flush with the design. The background
medium can be removed right up to the edge of the
design, including detail within the design.
Can I Apply them to my Garment with an Iron?
Using anything other than an industrial heat press is
not recommended. This is because the vinyl medium needs
exact pressure, a minimum amount of heat for a
recommended amount of time to bond correctly. Most of
these things can not be controlled using an home iron.
Washing & Care Instructions
• Please note strong washing powder and detergents (i.e.
detergents with strong additives) are harsh and can
strip colour from the garment. We recommend modest
washing powders and detergents to maintain brightness
and longevity of the heat transfers.
• Washing in cold water with garments turned inside out
is recommended. Transfers can be washed up to max. 40ºC
(this is also subject to the care instructions of the
garment).
• Transfers cannot be directly ironed. If ironing over
transfers, place a piece of fabric over the transfer
prior to ironing.
• Do not bleach or tumble dry.
It doesn’t matter whether you want a Dark Garment or a
Light Garment (such as white), DTG prints great.
